Louisiana State Police announced on Tuesday, January 26, the death of Retired K-9 Rico.
Rico, according to state police, was a Belgian Malinois who began his career with the LSP in 2009.
In February of 2018, Rico retired after nine years of service and spent his retirement with his handler’s family.
Throughout Rico’s career, he played an integral part in the seizure of over three-million dollars in U.S. Currency and illegal narcotics, troopers said.
He was trained to detect marijuana, cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, and methamphetamine.
