The Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency says they've set a new record for organ donation in the state.
In 2019, 233 donors gifted 754 organs to individuals awaiting life-saving transplants, according to LOPA.
Along with that number, the agency says that 102 organs not suitable for transplant were recovered for use in research and medical advancement.
LOPA says that thousands others will be saved with the help of tissue donations made by some 436 tissue donors.
"We are grateful to be able to help so many waiting for a life-saving organ transplant, and our thoughts are always with the donors and their families who make these second chances possible," Kelly Ranum, CEO of LOPA said in a press release.
Ranum says that with over 2,000 people still waiting for a transplant in Louisiana, the agency will continue striving to register more people and ensure support for families of potential donors.
