NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Scientists at Tulane University have been awarded a $1 million grant to learn more about the differences between the immune systems of men and women.
Tulane says in a news release that the grant for Tulane researchers is from the W.M. Keck Foundation. It will fund research into how sex differences shape disparate immune responses in men and women. The goal is to use the information to eventually create more precise treatments for men and women against various diseases.
The grant was awarded to a team of scientists at the Tulane University School of Medicine led by James McLachlan, associate professor of Microbiology and Immunology. He will work with his father, Professor of Pharmacology John McLachlan and Dr. Franck Mauvais-Jarvis, a leading researcher of sex differences in metabolic diseases.
