In a message shared with media outlets statewide, Gov. John Bel Edwards thanked Louisiana's healthcare workers for their efforts in the fight against COVID-19.

"The work and dedication of our healthcare workers is nothing short of heroic, and I am going to do everything in my power to continue supporting them and our mitigation efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19," said Gov. Edwards. "It’s because of their commitment to delivering quality care that more and more families are able to welcome their loved ones back home."

Edwards made similar statements during a Tuesday press conference where he announced the state would step back to a modified Phase II from Phase III. The changes come as Louisiana begins to see a surge in new coronavirus cases as the holiday season ramps up.
