FRENCH QUARTER FESTIVAL RETURNS IN FALL — NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A free annual music festival that celebrates New Orleans' historic French Quarter returns in the fall after last year's event became a casualty of COVID-19.

Organizers say the 2021 French Quarter Festival will take place Sept. 30 through Oct. 3. The event is traditionally held in April.

It will return to its usual dates in 2022.

The head of the French Quarter Festival organization, Emily Madero, says the festival will have a modified layout that adheres to coronavirus protocols and guidelines.

In 2019, the festival drew an estimated 825,000 people.

The festival is usually held on more than 20 stages throughout the Quarter.
