A former Ascension Parish deputy has been arrested in South Carolina on child sex charges.
The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office says 31-year-old Todd Tripp of Sorrento was arrested by deputies in York County, South Carolina.
Tripp was wanted for three counts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile, computer-aided solicitation of a minor, and unlawful use of access of social media.
He is expected to be transported back to the Ascension Parish jail at a later date.
The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office says received a report on Tuesday, September 29 about a registered sex offender having contact with a 16-year-old boy in another parish.
An investigation by detectives allegedly uncovered that Tripp had met the teen on a social media dating site under a false name and was actively engaging with him. Deputies say that Tripp met with the teen on three different occasion to engage in sexual activity.
A warrant was issued for his arrest following that investigation.
The former deputy had worked for the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office for 18 months in 2013 when he was terminated and arrested on charges of indecent behavior with a juvenile, possession of child pornography, 304 counts of child pornography and felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile.
Tripp was rearrested in March 2015 after the sheriff's office says that he was found to be in contact with a 13-year-old boy and was exchanging comments of sexual nature with him.
According to the sheriff's office, Tripp was sentenced to the Department of Corrections on December 18, 2017 and was released on March 12, 2019. Upon his release, he was placed on probation for a period of five years and required to register as a Tier II Sex Offender.
