State Police say a father and son were killed Friday night after their Ferrari overturned several times on Airline Highway in East Baton Rouge Parish.
Troopers say the crash occurred before 8:00 pm on US Hwy 61 (Airline Hwy.) north of Barringer Foreman Road in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash claimed the lives of 59-year-old Michael D. Pierce of Springfield, IL and his son 39-year-old Michael D. Pierce of Gonzales.
An investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as the Pierces were traveling northbound on Hwy 61 in a 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia. Troopers say that, for unknown reasons, the Ferrari exited the roadway to the right and struck a driveway bordering the roadway before overturning several times.
Both occupants were unrestrained at the time of the crash and were ejected, according to troopers. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers say they are still trying to determine who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash. Toxicology samples were obtained from both occupants for analysis.
The crash remains under investigation.
According to WBRZ, The younger Pierce owned North American Auto Group in Gonzales and was involved in the powerboats industry.
