The Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections has decided to cancel the fall Angola Spring Rodeo, set to take place in October.

An announcement on the rodeo website says that the cancellation is due to the continuation of restrictions due to COVID-19.

"It was a hard decision but the safety and the health of our offenders, staff and the public are our utmost priority. We know how much the rodeo means to all of you," the statement reads.

Organizers plan to hold next April's rodeo. The DOC postponed this April's event, along with suspending prisoner visitation and tours at the eight state-run prisons in Louisiana.

Find more information on the rodeo at their website and Facebook page.
