Face coverings will now be required in East Baton Rouge Parish.

According to the Advocate,Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome made the announcement on Wednesday during a press briefing.

The paper reports that Broome stated that the masks will be required, especially inside businesses. The mandate will be signed on Wednesday.

"My message is very simple: Save a life, save our economy and wear a face covering," Broome said.

She said the decision is "rooted in the common sense measures of our medical community."

"We cannot afford to return to a stay at home order," Broome said.

It was reported that Broome stated that people caught without a mask could face a misdemeanor summons.
