An East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's deputy was involved in a shooting on Saturday afternoon that left one other person dead.

The deputy was not injured.

According to WBRZ, officers "swarmed" the Highland Club neighborhood located off Jefferson Highway on Saturday around 6 p.m.

Authorities were called "after some sort of gunfire erupted." Shortly after arriving at a home, police had blocked the entrance to the neighborhood and were parked along the street.

State Police say that during the course of the interaction with the suspect, "a deputy discharged his firearm striking the suspect."

The suspect sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.

It's not clear what the original call was that prompted the police response.

Police say this is an ongoing investigation.
