Drowning leading cause of death for Louisiana toddlers

Accidental drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 4 in the U.S. It’s a surprising statistic for any parent who has worried about other dangers that seem more threatening, like traffic accidents or guns.

But in Louisiana, that rate is more than double the national figure, our media partners at The Advocate/ report.

Reporter Emily Woodruff talked to an Acadiana family who has experienced the tragedy, and took a look at the statistics and efforts to make children safer.
