The Department of Children and Family Services has created a phone line to connect families with their loved ones who evacuated to state-provided shelters.

The phone line is called "Connect." Families can call 225-342-2727 to reach out to loved ones in the non-congregate shelters or go online to fill out a form.

Forms can be found, here.

Due to privacy and safety reasons, DCFS says they cannot confirm the identities of those staying in non-congregate shelters or hotel rooms.

Those calling or filling out an online form will need to provide the name, address and date of birth, if known, of the person they are trying to locate. The caller will also need to provide their own name and contact information.

Once the person is determined to be in one of the shelters, DCFS will pass along the caller's message.

Those in non-congregate shelters wishing to alert their family and friends that they are safe should register online, here.

That website can also be used by those searching for missing friends or family members in the areas affected by Hurricane Laura, DCFS says.
