Two bodies of trapped workers in the partially collapsed Hard Rock Hotel could be reached and recovered in the next two weeks.
According to Nola.com, New Orleans Fire Superintendent Tim McConnell said Monday that the demolition operation is in full recovery mode. Crews are expected to reach the two bodies of Quinnyon Wimberly and Jose Ponce Arreola.
Nola.com reports that Wimberly's remains could be reached by the end of this week. While Ponce's remains, which are believed to be several floors lower, could be reached by next week.
McConnell said in a press conference that once the remains are collected, they will be placed into a container and the Coroner's Office, which will make a positive ID and then turn them over to their families.
The bodies of the two workers have been on site since the collapse on October 12, 2019.
The city has requested and received a no-fly zone around the site beginning Wednesday. He also reiterated how dangerous the operation remains, which has made for time-consuming work.
