Coast Guard suspends search for missing man in Mississippi River

On Sunday, September 1, the Coast Guard suspended its search for a missing swimmer in the Mississippi River.

Crews says the 26-year-old was last seen swimming in the Lower Mississippi River at Fort Jackson near Venice.

The report came in to the New Orleans sector at 5:38 pm on Saturday, August 30. Crews searched 216 square miles for 26 hours before calling off the search Sunday night.

The man was wearing a black shirt and blue shorts.

The Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans, Coast Guard Station Venice, Coast Guard Cutter Sailfish and the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office were involved in the search.
