GRAY, La. (AP) — A California man has died of injuries 11 days after a wrong-way driver on a Louisiana highway ran into an SUV in which he was a passenger, Louisiana State Police said Friday.

The Terrebonne Parish Coroner notified state police Friday that Wayne Thomas, 63, of Los Angeles, had died Thursday evening, said Trooper Ross Brennan.

Police said previously that neither Thomas nor the SUV’s driver was using a seat belt when a 2018 Dodge Charger hit their 2004 Toyota Highlander head-on shortly before 3 a.m. on April 3.

The SUV’s driver, 77-year-old Joseph Sias of New Orleans, died on the scene on U.S. Highway 90 just west of Louisiana Highway 316.

Police said the car’s driver was arrested on charges including first-offense DWI and vehicular homicide — killing someone by driving while intoxicated.

Police said they are still investigating the accident.
