A Brulsy man has died in an ATV accident that happened Saturday, state police say.

Troopers were called to La. 989-1 at about 6 p.m. Saturday. Shaun Duplantis, 44, has died from injuries he sustained in the crash, troopers say.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Duplantis was traveling east on a 1995 Honda FourTrax four-wheeler. For some reason the ATV ran off the road to the right, went into a ditch and struck a tree.

Duplantis sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Impairment is unknown at this time, but a toxicology sample was taken from Duplantis for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
