A 28-year-old Boyce man died early Sunday after a crash on I-49.

The crash happened about 5:30 a.m. north of Alexandria, State Police say. Gabriel Zambrano died in the accident.

Troopers say their initial investigation indicates that Zambrano was driving his truck north on the highway when the vehicle overturned. An SUV was also northbound, and didn't have time to avoid Zambrano's truck, Troopers say.

Troopers don't know if Zambrano was wearing his seat belt. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV driver was wearing a seatbelt and wasn't injured.

Toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted. Always ensure every occupant is properly restrained and follow all traffic laws. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.

In 2020, Troop E Troopers have investigated 42 fatal crashes resulting in 50 fatalities.
