A missing Destrehan woman was found Tuesday after a three-day search ended with the discovery of her body in a swampy area of St. Charles Parish. Police say she wandered in the cold and rain until she died, likely from exposure.

According to The Advocate, 71-year-old Anna Mae Chauvin, whom investigators say had dementia, was last seen on Saturday, when she was dropped off in her neighborhood by a taxi.

Investigators determined Chauvin was dropped off at about 10:15 Saturday night at a Shell station just a few blocks from her home. A witness saw Chauvin walking on a road at 2 a.m. Sunday, and a person matching her description was recorded on surveillance video later that day.

Search and rescue volunteers along with law enforcement investigators and a private helicopter service searched for Chauvin. Her body was discovered shortly before noon on Tuesday.
