A Baton Rouge man is facing a cruelty to juveniles charge after bringing his 8-month-old daughter to a hospital with what appeared to be frostbite.

WBRZ reports that arrest documents from Baton Rouge Police Department show that 22-year-old Daquain Davis showed up at an emergency room with the baby on Tuesday. Medical workers said the girl was wearing soaking wet clothes and that her core temperature was only 93 degrees. An internal temperature that low, medical officials tell WBRZ, are seen with people who are typically dead.

The arrest report noted temperatures around 25 degrees at the time. The 8-month-old was taken to OLOL Children's Hospital for more specialized care, but the report states Davis allegedly refused to let workers take her to the ICU.

The child, they report has a strong chance of suffering long-term damage, but the full extend of injuries is still unknown, medical staff said.

Davis was booked into jail on a charge of second-degree cruelty to juveniles.
