A 90-year-old man died after a Sunday crash in Lockport, State Police say.

Sidney Savoie, 90, died at the hospital after a crash at the intersection of La. 1 and Romy Drive. An 82-year-old woman was driving a car, with Savoie as passenger, on Romy Drive, troopers say. She came to the stop sign at La. 1., stopped, and then pulled out to make a left turn - into the path of a Ford Explorer.

The driver of the SUV tried to steer left to avoid the collision, but couldn't avoid hitting the car. Savoie was transported to a hospital where he died. The driver of the vehicle he was riding in also was transported, with what troopers described as "moderate" injuries.

The driver of the SUV was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.

Impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash, troopers say. However, a toxicology report is pending on the part of both drivers. All three occupants were properly restrained at the time of the crash. The investigation is ongoing.

Troop C has investigated 28 fatal crashes resulting in 30 deaths in 2020.
