The $300 federal unemployment benefits for Louisiana are running out.

At a press conference Friday Governor John Bel Edwards said that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has notified the Louisiana Workforce Commission that the Lost Wage Assistance program that extended $300 per week in enhanced unemployment benefits would end after the week ending on September 5, 2020.

Edwards said that LWC has received funding from FEMA for the week ending August 29, but that those funds won't appear until the next business day, which is Monday.

The Workfoce Commission, according to Edwards, has requested funds for the week ending Sept. 5, but FEMA has yet to approve them. Current eligible LWA claimants will receive the additional $300 through that date (Sept. 5) as long as FEMA funding remains available.

KATC has reached out to the Louisiana Workforce Commission for comment on the distribution of those federal unemployment benefits but has not heard back.
