State Police say three people were killed Sunday night following a multi-vehicle crash on US Hwy 90B in Jefferson Parish.

Troopers say the crash occurred around 10:30 pm on the elevated portion of US Hwy 90B at MacArthur Avenue. The crash claimed the lives of 49-year-old Claude Williams Jr. of Gretna, 49-year-old William Leinart of Gretna, and 66-year-old Ivan Chopin of Marrero.

40-year-old Todd Williams of New Orleans was arrested as a result of the investigation.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Claude Williams was driving a 2003 GMC Yukon eastbound on US Hwy 90B when it was involved in a single vehicle crash and became disabled. Leinart and Chopin were assisting Williams with moving the disabled Yukon when they were struck by a 2015 Chevrolet Impala driven by Todd Williams.

The crash ultimately pushed the pedestrians over the side of the elevated expressway. Two other vehicle were also struck as a result of the crash.

Claude Williams, William Leinart, and Ivan Chopin were all pronounced deceased by the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office. Todd Williams, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Troopers say impairment is suspected on the part of Todd Williams. A toxicology sample was obtained for analysis.

Todd Williams was arrested and booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center for Vehicular Homicide (3 counts), Vehicular Negligent Injuring (3 counts), Careless Operation, No Seat Belt, and Switched License Plate. This crash remains under investigation.
