Louisiana State Police Troop B says a female driver in St. John the Baptist Parish was killed after crashing into a moving train.

Troopers say the crash occurred on LA Hwy 54. The name of the driver is being withheld until she can be positively identified.

State Police say that the driver was traveling southbound towards the railroad tracks when, for unknown reasons, she drove around a stopped vehicle and through the crossing arms.

Her vehicle, a 2015 Toyota Camry, ran underneath the moving train where troopers say she sustained fatal injuries.

During their investigation, Troopers learned that at the time of the crash the railroad crossing arms were in a down position and that the light and sound warnings were functioning.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. John the Baptist Coroner’s Office.

Troopers say that restraint use and impairment is unknown at this time. An autopsy will be performed to determine impairment and positively identify the victim.
