Today marks the return of one of the most iconic TV brands, Court TV.

The newest Katz network will be devoted to gavel-to-gavel coverage, in-depth legal reporting and expert analysis of the nation’s most important and compelling trials. Locally, you can find Court TV at 3.4 over the air.

Katz Networks is a division of the E.W. Scripps Co., which also owns KATC.

The channel takes to the airwaves today, and by the end of the year, will be in more than 80% of the country via over-the-air and widely distributed on cable and over-the-top TV services.

Like the original Court TV, the network will be devoted to around-the-clock coverage and analysis of the nation’s top trials. The first covers a high-profile case in Atlanta where two parents are charged in their baby’s death.

Along with Court TV, we acquired its assets, which includes footage of more than 1,000 trials, providing a wealth of content that will allow Court TV to enhance new courtroom coverage, revisit past trials and create original programming and specials. Some of our other brands also plan to leverage the Court TV archives to develop or enhance their own programming efforts.

Emmy Award-winning legal journalist Vinnie Politan serves as the network’s lead anchor. Julie Grant, Seema Iyer and Yodit Tewolde join him at the network desk. All four are seasoned journalists and lawyers who have successfully blended television and legal careers.

Since E.W. founded Scripps 141 years ago, we have been a company committed to quality journalism. The rebirth of Court TV is natural addition to Scripps and furthers our efforts to push for transparency and public understanding of our government and in our legal system.
