UPDATE: I-10 East is now OPEN at mile marker 130 (past Whiskey Bay) following a deputy-involved crash.
WBRZ says that the closure was due to a crash involving an Iberville Parish Sheriff’s unit and another vehicle.
The Sheriff’s Office says that a deputy was working a crash on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge when his unit was struck by a passing vehicle. The incident happened just before 7:00 am.
The scene has now been cleared.
Congestion has reached approximately 8 miles. Motorists can expect heavy delays.
