The district chief of the Baton Rouge Fire Department suffered a heart attack at the scene of a fatal fire Sunday night, according to the Advocate.
The newspaper reports that the chief was responding with firefighters to a home in Baton Rouge when he suffered the attack and had to be resuscitated.
A spokesman said the chief was brought to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
The house fire, which occurred at a home on Hibiscus Drive, resulted in the death of one of the home’s occupants. Officials say another resident was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
An investigation into what caused the fire is currently underway.
The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office is also investigating.
