The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating a helicopter crash that happened near Galliano, a spokeswoman tells KATC.

Investigators believe the B407 helicopter was heading to Venice from Galliano when it went down.

There’s no word on what caused the crash or if anyone was injured. We’ve reached out to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff for more information.

We reached out to the company who owned the helicopter, Bristow Group, and they provided us with the following statement:

Bristow Group Inc. confirmed today one of its helicopters, registration N577AL, was involved in an accident at about 12 p.m. Central Time today in the Gulf of Mexico. The aircraft, a Bell 407, was operating between Galliano and Venice, Louisiana.

Preliminary information indicates the aircraft was carrying one passenger and one crew member. Bristow Group’s incident response team has been mobilized. The company is fully cooperating with authorities responding to the accident.

“Our highest priority is assisting those involved and impacted by the accident,” said President and CEO Don Miller.

The families of those onboard the aircraft have been contacted. The company is in the process of collecting information and will release more details at bristowgroup.com as soon as it is available.
