COTTONPORT – UPDATE: An inmate who escaped from the Avoyelles Women’s Correction Center yesterday is back in custody.

Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s deputies located Desiree Lavergne about an hour ago in the Cottonport area.

Lavergne and three other inmates, D’Juana Reed, Amanda Tassin, and Bridget Gagnard, escaped the Cottonport prison shortly before 7 p.m. on Thursday after they broke a deadbolt on a door at the jail, according to Sheriff Doug Anderson.

The same evening, deputies located Reed, Tassin and Gagnard at an abandoned house in Cottonport. The sheriff believes Lavergne may have run into nearby woods.

Lavergne was in jail for simple burglary, possession of a firearm by a felon, and the illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities, KALB reports.

All four inmates are back in jail and now facing simple escape and damage to property charges, the sheriff says.
