Louisiana State Police have arrested a man in connection with last night’s fatal crash on I-10 East in Ascension Parish.

Troopers say that 56-year-old John White of Ecru, Mississippi was arrested after an investigation revealed that White failed to stop his 18-wheeler for traffic that was already stopped on the roadway due to a previous crash.

The crash caused a chain reaction that involved eleven other vehicles, according to troopers.

46-year-old Julie Holmes of Gonzales died as a result of the crash. The Ascension Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced Holmes dead at the scene. Eighteen others were injured. Troopers say impairment is not suspected to be a factor.

White was arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on charges of Negligent Homicide and 18 counts of Negligent Injuring.

Troopers say the crash remains under investigation and that other charges are pending.
