Rapides Parish Sheriff’s deputies have arrested an LSU grad student and accused him of rape and battery.
Edouard d’Espalungue, 28, of Baton Rouge was booked with sexual battery and second-degree rape in connection with a September incident.
The victim told deputies that they were attending a retreat in the Woodworth area when another attendee sexually assaulted them.
Deputies first arrested d’Espalungue and booked him on sexual battery, and he was released on $25,000 bond. After detectives worked on the case further, they arrested him again and booked him with second-degree rape. He was released after he posted a $75,000 bond.
d’Espalungue is a French foreign national attending LSU and the judge also ordered d’Espalungue to relinquish his passport as part of his bond conditions. He also is not allowed to leave the state.
