State Police have confirmed that the pedestrian and former UL student struck by a vehicle last Saturday near LSU has succumbed to his injuries.

The crash happened at around 1:00 am on LA Hwy 30 just north of Ben Hur Road in Baton Rouge. In the incident, State Police say 19-year-old Blake M. Cordes of Mandeville was walking southbound on the shoulder of LA Hwy 30 when he stepped into the roadway and was struck by a 2015 Hyundai Tucson traveling northbound.

Cordes sustained serious injuries and was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries. State Police say Cordes died on September 26.

Cordes attended UL Lafayette during the Fall 2017 semester. Records indicated that he was not currently enrolled at the university for 2018.
