The family of a Lafayette man says that he has West Nile, that according to KPLC.

The wife of Steve Fruge of Lafayette tells KPLC that her husband contracted West Nile Virus while at their camp in Hackberry.

The Louisiana Department of Health shows that one case has been confirmed in Lafayette Parish. Data provided on LDH’s website says that the case is recorded in Lafayette Parish because cases are reported in the parish of residence, not where the exposure occurred.

Fruge says her husband was out in the Hackberry area for several weeks when the 63-year-old developed symptoms associated with West Nile Virus.

The State Department could not confirm that Fruge has West Nile as they cannot release patient information.

LCG recently confirmed that a mosquito pool in Lafayette Parish tested positive for West Nile. That sample was collected near the Butcher Switch area.
