A Hammond Police Officer was arrested Wednesday night and accused of sex crimes against a juvenile, according to the Advocate and the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office.

44-year-old Brad Core of Hammond was arrested and booked on counts of sexual battery, carnal knowledge of a juvenile and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The Hammond Police Department has requested the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office conduct the investigation.

According to the Advocate, a public information officer with the City of Hammond confirmed that Core had resigned from the department on Wednesday and was placed on administrative leave on Monday.

Core has been with the department since 2002.

The sheriff’s office says the investigation, which began Tuesday, is still ongoing. Core is being held in the St. Tammany Parish Jail. No bond has been set.
