WAITR is partnering with LifeShare Blood Center to encourage more people to donate blood in Acadiana with free delivery on takeout orders.
According to a release from both organizations, anyone who gives blood with LifeShare through Saturday, March 29 will be given a code for free delivery when they use WAITR.
The move comes as more people may be avoiding restaurants because of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and turning to food delivery services like WAITR to provide dinner without having to go out.
Social distancing restrictions and mitigation guidelines have also hurt the blood supply both locally and across the country.
According to LifeShare, it has lost more than 4,000 planned donations because of canceled blood drives at schools, churches, and businesses because of COVID-19.
Both organizations state that the partnership will allow people to avoid too much social interaction while being able to help others.
The release states that the code will automatically be emailed to donors following their donation. When donors enter the code in the WAITR app, the delivery charge will be waived. Donors can redeem the code until the promotion expires.
Additionally, LifeShare also states that it follows strict FDA guidlines regarding health and safety, and has implemented more stringent cleaning procedures and has limited the size of some blood drives to protect donors and staff.
LifeShare states that all of its donor centers are operating on extended hours throughout the partnership with WAITR in order to reduce the number of donors giving blood at one time.
Donors can view a full list of drive locations and hours or make an appointment by visiting www.LifeShare.org.
