Small Businesses in Senate District 28 must show proof of financial impact to receive Small Business Association (SBA) assistance in their parish.

"Governor John Bel Edwards has so far requested SBA assistance for only Jefferson and Orleans parishes," Senator Heather Cloud said. "Although these parishes are two of the most impacted parishes by COVID-19, the rest of the state is dealing with the economic impact of required social distancing practices."

Gov. Edwards has said he will request SBA assistance for all parishes in the state, however parishes must show documented economic impact prior to the request being made. Without this request, the federal Small Business Administration cannot provide the assistance to small businesses.

"We can each do our part by gathering info on how our businesses are being affected and send the info to the governor's office," Sen. Cloud said. "I'm asking that you send my office an email stating the name of your business, the industry you're in, and a summary of how this pandemic has impacted the finances of your business. Please list revenue numbers or number of customers lost, if possible. Also, briefly mention how the pandemic and new restrictions will affect employees you may need to furlough or layoff temporarily."
