The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office says it has acquired personal protection equipment for staff and has also given back to area medical workers.

Sheriff Louis Ackal says he acquired the PPE through commercial purchases and equipment allocations from the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. The equipment will go to his staff but Ackal says he has also been able to reallocate more than 300 face shields to Iberia Medical Center.

"Hopefully this will enable the nurses and doctors to continue to protect themselves during this COVID-19 pandemic," a release states.

Sheriff Ackal is encouraging everyone to work together to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

"If you or your company has more personal protection equipment than you need, reach out to hospitals and first responders. This small gesture may stop the spread or save a life."
