COVID-19: State update - 282,434 cases and 6,994 deaths

As of Dec. 18, the number of total coronavirus cases reported in Louisiana increased by 3,103 and the number of deaths had increased by 30, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

Of these cases, 2,374 are confirmed cases and 729 are probable cases.

The total coronavirus case count in the state on Friday was 282,434. The current total death count is 6,994.

The collection dates for most of these cases (97.6%) fall between December 10 and December 17, 2020. 97 percent of the cases reported to the state Friday were community spread and 3 percent of the cases reported were in congregate settings.

Individuals between the ages of 18 and 29 (20%) and between the ages of 30 and 39 (15%) account for 35% of these cases, according to LDH.

LDH reports that 232,725 patients are "presumed recovered." (These numbers are normally updated on Mondays. The last update was on 12/14/20).

Since Thursday, 32,606 new tests have been reported to the state, bringing the total number of tests to 4,075,599. Of the tests reported today, 27,997 were PCR tests and 4,609 were antigen tests.

As of Friday, 1,547 patients were hospitalized across the state (down 37 from Thursday), 179 of those patients were on ventilators (up 10 from Thursday).

Across Acadiana, there were 946 news cases and 7 new deaths since Thursday.

FROM THURSDAY:

As of Dec. 17, the number of total coronavirus cases reported in Louisiana increased by 3,851 and the number of deaths had increased by 31, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

Of these cases, 2,988 are confirmed cases and 863 are probable cases.

The total coronavirus case count in the state on Thursday was 279,321. The current total death count is 6,964.

LDH says that because of the daily removal of newly identified duplicates and out of state cases, the new case increase may not match the difference between today’s and yesterday's total case count.

The collection dates for most of these cases (86.4%) fall between Dec. 9 - 16, 2020. LDH reports that 95% of the cases reported to the state Thursday were community spread and 5% of the cases reported to the state today were in congregate settings.

Individuals between the ages of 18 and 29 and between the ages of 30 and 39 account for 34% of these cases, according to LDH.

LDH reports that 232,725 patients are "presumed recovered." (These numbers are normally updated on Mondays. The last update was on 12/14/20).

Since Wednesday, 37,152 new tests have been reported to the state, bringing the total number of tests to 4,042,993. Of the tests reported today, 32,409 were PCR tests and 4,743 were antigen tests.

As of Thursday, 1,584 patients were hospitalized across the state (up 18 from Wednesday), 169 of those patients were on ventilators (up 2 from Wednesday).

Across Acadiana, there were 542 news cases and 6 new deaths since Wednesday. As of Dec. 16, there were 225 hospitalizations in LDH - Region 4, which covers most of Acadiana.
