COVID-19: State update - 261,329 cases and 6,724 deaths

As of Dec. 10, the number of total coronavirus cases reported in Louisiana increased by 2,542 and the number of deaths had increased by 40, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

Of these cases, 2,139 are confirmed cases and 403 are probable cases.

The total coronavirus case count in the state on Thursday was 261,329. The current total death count is 6,724.

LDH says that Wednesday, Dec. 9, marked nine months since the first case of COVID-19 was identified in Louisiana.

LDH adds that because of the daily removal of newly identified duplicates and out of state cases, the new case increase may not match the difference between today’s and yesterday's total case count.

The collection dates for most of these cases (95.9%) fall between Dec. 1 - 9, 2020. LDH says that 95% of the cases reported to the state Thursday were community spread and 5% of the cases reported were in congregate settings.

Individuals between the ages of 18 and 29 account for 20% of these cases.

LDH reports that 217,930 patients are "presumed recovered." (These numbers are normally updated on Mondays. The last update was on 12/7/20).

Since Wednesday, 27,594 new tests have been reported to the state, bringing the total number of tests to 3,829,577. Of the tests reported today, 24,629 were PCR tests and 2,965 were antigen tests.

As of Wednesday, 1,537 patients were hospitalized across the state (down 8 from Wednesday), 180 of those patients were on ventilators (up 3 from Wednesday).

FROM WEDNESDAY:

As of Dec. 9, the number of total coronavirus cases reported in Louisiana increased by 4,339 and the number of deaths had increased by 32, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

Of these cases, 2,618 are confirmed cases and 1,721 are probable cases.

The total coronavirus case count in the state on Wednesday was 258,914. The current total death count is 6,684.

LDH says that Wednesday, December 9, marks nine months since the first case of COVID-19 was identified in Louisiana. Today’s case count is also the highest number of new cases reported without a backlog since that first case was identified on March 9.

The collection dates for most of these cases (87.3%) fall between December 1 and December 8, 2020. LDH says that 98 percent of the cases reported to the state today were community spread and 2 percent of the cases reported were in congregate settings.

LDH reports that 217,930 patients are "presumed recovered." (These numbers are normally updated on Mondays. The last update was on 12/7/20).

Since Tuesday, 41,054 new tests have been reported to the state, bringing the total number of tests to 3,801,983. Of the tests reported Wednesday, 30,842 were PCR tests and 10,212 were antigen tests.

As of Wednesday, 1,537 patients were hospitalized across the state (up 21 from Tuesday), 177 of those patients were on ventilators (up 12 from Tuesday).

Since Tuesday, 923 Acadiana residents have tested positive for the virus, and 4 have died.
