COVID-19: State update - 216,709 cases and 6,233 deaths

As of November 20, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases reported in Louisiana increased by 4,814 and the number of deaths had increased by 34, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

The total number of cases in the state is now at 216,709 and the number of deaths is 6,233 as of Friday.

The Louisiana Department of Health says that Friday's report contains a newly identified backlog of COVID-19 tests, in addition to its standard reporting.

The backlog, according to LDH, was due to a processing error in the electronic lab reporting system. The backlog of is of 2,538 COVID cases on 69,125 tests reported to the state.

LDH says that while the significantly increase the number of reported COVID cases Friday, the Department will reallocate these backlogged lab results back to their specimen collection dates, which range from 9/12 to 11/18. Of the 2,538 total backlog, 1,038 COVID cases date back to Halloween (10/31).

These cases come from all regions, with the greatest impacted being in the Shreveport/Bossier (498 cases) and Monroe (872 cases) areas. The majority of these cases (85%) are tied to community spread, not congregate settings like nursing homes.

LDH began reporting new antigen test data in last Friday's numbers update, read more. On that day, LDH reported a new record - the biggest single-day increase reported since the start of the pandemic in Louisiana.

New cases among multiple age groups are increasing sharply across the state, they say. LDH noted that increases continued for nursing home residents and staff cases over the past week.

Percent positivity is also increasing statewide. The Department has identified an increase in percent positivity in 55 of 64 parishes. Hospitalizations per capita for the state are increasing over the last 14 days.

LDH reports that 185,960 patients are "presumed recovered." (These numbers are normally updated on Mondays. The last update was on 11/16/20).

Since Thursday, 101,452 new tests have been reported to the state, bringing the total number of tests to 3,286,083. These total tests have been broken down into 3,199,707 molecular and 86,376 antigen tests.

As of Friday, 972 patients were hospitalized (up 43 from Thursday), 101 of those patients were on ventilators (up 13 from Thursday).

Since Thursday, 605 Acadiana residents have tested positive, and 6 have died.

As of November 19, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases reported in Louisiana increased by 2,073 and the number of deaths had increased by 15, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

Of these cases, LDH says that 1,755 are confirmed cases and 318 are probable cases.

The total number of cases in the state is now at 211,966 and the number of deaths is 6,199 as of Thursday.

LDH reports that 185,960 patients are "presumed recovered." (These numbers are normally updated on Mondays. The last update was on 11/16/20).

Since Wednesday, 27,961 new tests have been reported to the state, bringing the total number of tests to 3,184,631. These total tests have been broken down into 3,102,404 molecular and 82,227 antigen tests.

As of Thursday, 929 patients were hospitalized (up 43 from Wednesday), 88 of those patients were on ventilators (down 5 from Wednesday).

Since Wednesday, 485 Acadiana residents have tested positive, and 2 have died.
