COVID-19: State update - 178,870 cases and 5,614 deaths

As of October 23, the number of coronavirus cases reported in Louisiana increased by 696 and the number of deaths had increased by 21, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

The total number of cases in the state is now at 178,870 and the number of deaths is 5,614 as of Friday.

LDH says that the collection dates for most of these cases fall between October 15 and October 22, 2020. 94 percent of the cases reported to the state on Friday were community spread and 6 percent of the cases reported to the state were in congregate settings.

LDH reports that 165,282 patients are "presumed recovered." (These numbers are normally updated on Mondays. The last update was on 10/19/20).

Since Thursday, 20,078 new tests have been reported to the state, bringing the total number of tests to 2,667,505.

According to LDH, 620 people are currently hospitalized across the state (up 22 from Thursday), and 65 of those are on ventilators (up 1 from Thursday).

St. Landry - 3,616 cases (up 19) | 135 deaths (no change)

St. Martin - 2,201 cases (up 10) | 63 deaths (no change)

St. Mary - 2,015 cases (up 4) | 84 deaths (no change)

Vermilion - 2,114 (up 10) | 70 deaths (no change)

FROM THURSDAY:

As of October 22, the number of coronavirus cases reported in Louisiana increased by 775 and the number of deaths had increased by 9, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

The total number of cases in the state is now at 178,171 and the number of deaths is 5,593 as of Thursday.

LDH reports that 165,282 patients are "presumed recovered." (These numbers are normally updated on Mondays. The last update was on 10/19/20).

Since Wednesday, 19,756 new tests have been reported to the state, bringing the total number of tests to 2,647,427.

According to LDH, 598 people are currently hospitalized across the state (down 10 from Wednesday), and 64 of those are on ventilators (down 4 from Wednesday).
