FROM WEDNESDAY

As of October 7, the number of coronavirus cases reported in Louisiana increased by 1,053 and the number of deaths had increased by 9, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

The total number of cases in the state is now at 170,097 and the number of deaths is 5,411 as of Wednesday.

LDH states on its website that the 1,052 new cases includes a backlog of 406 cases with collection dates before 9/16.

According to its Twitter page, 432 of Wednesday’s reported cases are attributed to a backlog of cases with collection dates ranging from June to September. The cases will be attributed to those dates on the Department’s dashboard.

"Because of the daily removal of newly identified duplicates and out of state cases, the new case increase may not match the difference between today’s and yesterday's total case count," LDH states in another tweet. "The collection dates for most of these cases fall between September 29 and October 6, 2020."

LDH is also reporting that 98% of the cases reported to the state Wednesday were community spread, while 2% of the cases reported to the state were in congregate settings.

According to LDH, people aged 29 and under represent 39% of these cases and 27% are individuals between 18-29. Since Tuesday, LDH is reporting that 23,032 new tests have been reported to the state, bringing the total number of tests to 2,425,387.
