COVID-19: State update - 159,304 cases and 5,143 deaths

As of September 17, the number of coronavirus cases reported in Louisiana increased by 500 and the number of deaths had increased by 17, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

The total number of cases in the state is now at 159,304 and the number of deaths is 5,143 as of Thursday.

LDH says that the collection dates for most of these cases fall between September 10 and September 17, 2020. 95 percent of the cases reported to the state on Thursday were community spread. People aged 29 and under represent 33 percent of these cases. 23 percent are individuals between 18-29, according to the department.

LDH reports that 145,570 patients are "presumed recovered." (These numbers are normally updated on Mondays; last update 09/14/20).

Since Wednesday, 9,006 new tests have been reported to the state, bringing the total number of tests to 2,123,151.

According to LDH, 663 people are currently hospitalized (down 15 from Wednesday), and 106 of those are on ventilators (down 1 from Wednesday).

St. Mary - 1,861 cases (up 4) | 75 deaths (no change)

Vermilion - 1,984 (up 8) | 56 deaths (no change)

FROM Tuesday:

As of September 16, the number of coronavirus cases reported in Louisiana increased by 508 and the number of deaths had increased by 18, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

The total number of cases in the state is now at 158,826 and the number of deaths is 5,126 as of Wednesday.

LDH reports that 145,570 patients are "presumed recovered." (These numbers are normally updated on Mondays; last update 09/14/20).

Since Tuesday, 23,122 new tests have been reported to the state, bringing the total number of tests to 2,114,145.

According to LDH, 678 people are currently hospitalized (up 11 from Tuesday), and 107 of those are on ventilators (up 8 from Tuesday).
