As of August 28, the number of coronavirus cases reported in Louisiana increased by 627 and the number of deaths had increased by 30, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

The total number of cases in the state is now at 146,243 and 4,741 deaths as of Friday.

LDH says that because of the daily removal of newly identified duplicates and out of state cases, the new case increase may not match the difference between today’s and yesterday's total case count. That difference has the additional case count at 606.

LDH says that the collection dates for most of these cases (99.4%) fall between August 20 and August 27, 2020. 72 percent of the cases reported to the state Thursday were community spread.

LDH states the collection dates for all these cases fall between August 21 and August 28. They add that 96% of the cases reported to the state Friday were community spread. People aged 29 and under represent 31% of these cases.

Since Thursday, LDH states that 10,275 new tests have been reported to the state, bringing the total number of tests to 1,828,478.

According to LDH, 876 people are currently hospitalized (up 24 from Thursday), and 145 of those are on ventilators (down 4 from Thursday).

As of Aug. 26, LDH is now reporting 701 "Probable Cases" of COVID-19.
