COVID-19: State update - 145,637 coronavirus cases and 4,711 deaths

As of August 27, the number of coronavirus cases reported in Louisiana increased by 723 and the number of deaths had increased by 23, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

The total number of cases in the state is now at 145,637 and 4,711 deaths as of Thursday.

LDH says that the collection dates for most of these cases (99.4%) fall between August 20 and August 27, 2020. 72 percent of the cases reported to the state Thursday were community spread.

According to LDH, 876 people are currently hospitalized (down 38 from Wednesday), and 145 of those are on ventilators (up 4 from Wednesday).

St. Mary - 1,746 cases (up 9) | 68 deaths (up 1)

Vermilion - 1,853 (down 1) | 41 deaths (up 1)

FROM WEDNESDAY:

As of August 26, the number of coronavirus cases reported in Louisiana increased by 844 and the number of deaths had increased by 32, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

The total number of cases in the state is now at 144,960 and 4,688 deaths as of Tuesday.

LDH says that 85% of the cases reported to the state Wednesday were from community spread and that people aged 29 and under represent 30% of these cases.

According to LDH, 914 people are currently hospitalized (down 16 from Tuesday), and 148 of those are on ventilators (up 7 from Tuesday).

LDH is now reporting "Probable Cases" of COVID-19. As of Aug. 26, LDH is reporting 701 probable cases.
