COVID-19: State update - 142,943 coronavirus cases and 4,605 deaths

As of August 23, the number of coronavirus cases reported in Louisiana increased by 1,223 and the number of deaths had increased by 59, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

The total number of cases in the state is now at 142,943 and 4,605 deaths as of Sunday.

LDH is reporting that 118,120 coronavirus patients are "presumed recovered" (updated weekly, last updated 8/17/20).

The LDH reports 941 people currently hospitalized (down 110 from Friday) and 152 of those are on ventilators (down 20 from Friday).

Calcasieu - 7,277 cases (up 42) | 178 deaths (up 12)

Evangeline - 1,004 cases (up 9) | 22 deaths (up 2)

Iberia - 2,661 cases (up 13) | 81 deaths (No change)

Jefferson Davis - 1,116 cases (up 5) | 33 deaths (up 1)

Lafayette - 8,148 cases (up 45) | 106 deaths (up 3)

St. Landry - 3,000 cases (up 24) | 107 deaths (up 2)

St. Martin - 1,836 cases (up 9) | 51 deaths (up 1)

St. Mary - 1,720 cases (up 9) | 65 deaths (no change)

Vermilion - 1,784 (up 16) | 35 deaths (up 3)

FROM FRIDAY:

As of August 21, the number of coronavirus cases reported in Louisiana increased by 899 and the number of deaths had increased by 50, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

The total number of cases in the state is now at 141,720 and 4,546 deaths as of Friday.

LDH says that the collection dates for most of these cases (94%) fall between August 14 and August 21, 2020. 84 percent of the cases reported to the state Friday were community spread.

People aged 29 and under represent 32% of these cases, according to LDH.

LDH is reporting that 118,120 coronavirus patients are "presumed recovered" (updated weekly, last updated 8/17/20).

The LDH reports 1,051 people currently hospitalized (down 36 from Thursday) and 172 of those are on ventilators (down 6 from Thursday).
