COVID-19: State update - 139,125 coronavirus cases and 4,431 deaths

As of August 18, the number of coronavirus cases reported in Louisiana increased by 640 and the number of deaths had increased by 28, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

The total number of cases in the state is now at 139,125 and 4,431 deaths as of Tuesday.

LDH says that the collection dates for most of Tuesday's cases (99%) fall between August 11 and August 18, 2020. 94 percent of the cases reported to the state Tuesday were community spread and people aged 30-39 represent 18 percent of these cases. LDH says the second highest age group is people aged 18-29 (16%).

LDH is reporting that 103,512 coronavirus patients are "presumed recovered" (updated weekly, last updated 8/10/20).

The LDH reports 1,204 people currently hospitalized (down 22 from Monday) and 187 of those are on ventilators (up 3 from Monday).

St. Martin - 1,795 cases (up 5) | 49 deaths (up 1)

St. Mary - 1,689 cases (up 4) | 62 deaths (up 1)

Vermilion - 1,737 (up 2) | 31 deaths (up 1)

FROM MONDAY:

As of August 17, the number of coronavirus cases reported in Louisiana increased by 567 and the number of deaths had increased by 19, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

The total number of cases in the state is now at 138,485 and 4,403 deaths as of Monday.

LDH is reporting that 103,512 coronavirus patients are "presumed recovered" (updated weekly, last updated 8/10/20).

The LDH reports 1,226 people currently hospitalized (up 30 from Sunday) and 184 of those are on ventilators (down 5 from Sunday).

(*State officials say they sometimes move a positive case from one parish to another if the positive was assigned to the parish where the person took the test, rather than where their residence is)
