City leaders in Opelousas are doing their part to stop the spread of the coronavirus by handing out masks to residents.

Cars lined up outside the Opelousas Civic Center this morning for the giveaway.

Mayor Julius Alsandor says this is just one way the city can help its residents.

"Trying to give to those who don't have access to this or who don't have the means to get masks, said Alsandor."The city and all the municipalities in this area just trying to do a good deed around here for everyone and mitigate the circumstances we're going through."

The masks were donated by the Hanesbrands.
