Acadiana sees slight increase in COVID-19 cases, Calcasieu and Lafayette with largest jumps

A few more deaths were reported today in Acadiana in several parishes due to COVID-19 but the numbers for the majority of parishes in the area had either increased by one or not changed.. Overall, case numbers rose slightly again for some parishes, with Calcasieu Parish seeing the highest increase in cases.

In Calcasieu on Wednesday, there were a reported 282 cases and 15 deaths. By Thursday, the numbers had increased to 300 cases a gain of 18. Deaths in the parish did not change.

St. Mary Parish only gained 4 new cases from Wednesday but increased the number of deaths by 4. The parish is now reporting 8 deaths. There are 134 cases of COVID-19.

Lafayette Parish also saw a larger increase than other parishes today, reporting 387 cases and 16 deaths on Thursday. That is up from 375 cases which is an increase of 12 cases. No new deaths were reported.

Iberia Parish and St. Martin Parish both added 5 cases on Thursday. Iberia Parish is now reporting 164 cases with 6 deaths. That is one death less than reported on Wednesday. A reason for the decrease was not given.

St. Martin Parish now has 179 cases with 10 deaths.

Acadia Parish is reporting 2 additional cases and one more death from Wednesday. The parish is now at 108 cases with 6 deaths.

Evangeline Parish gained 1 new reported case bringing their total to 41. No deaths have been reported in the parish. Vermilion Parish also added one new case totaling 28, no deaths reported.

Jeff Davis Parish did not add any new cases of COVID-19 but one additional death was reported. The parish has a total of 48 cases and 5 deaths.
