Acadiana parishes record double digit rise in COVID-19 percent positivity

Percent positivity rates are on the rise in most parishes across Acadiana with several parishes recording a double digit increase over the last few weeks.

The Louisiana Department of Health updates its percent positivity rates each Wednesday. Of the percent positivity rates from Dec. 17 - 23 compared to Dec. 24 - 30, Iberia Parish recorded the largest increase with 43.62%, followed by Lafayette Parish with 40.91%.

Gov. John Bel Edwards's latest emergency proclamation went into effect on Nov. 25 and moved the state back into a modified Phase 2 where bars that are in parishes that exceed 5% positivity for two consecutive weeks are required to cease serving patrons indoors.

According to LDH, here are the percent positivity rates for each parish in Acadiana as of Wednesday, Jan. 6:

Acadia

  • Dec. 17 - 23: 9.00%
  • Dec. 24 - 30: 9.30%
  • Week-to-Week change: 3.33%

Evangeline

  • Dec. 17 - 23: 11.40%
  • Dec. 24 - 30: 14.50%
  • Week-to-Week change: 27.19%

Jeff Davis

  • Dec. 17 - 23: 8.30%
  • Dec. 24 - 30: 7.60%
  • Week-to-Week change: -8.43%

Iberia

  • Dec. 17 - 23: 9.40%
  • Dec. 24 - 30: 13.50%
  • Week-to-Week change: 43.62%

Lafayette

  • Dec. 17 - 23: 11.00%
  • Dec. 24 - 30: 15.50%
  • Week-to-Week change: 40.91%

St. Landry

  • Dec. 17 - 23: 9.70%
  • Dec. 24 - 30: 11.10%
  • Week-to-Week change: 14.43%

St. Martin

  • Dec. 17 - 23: 15.10%
  • Dec. 24 - 30: 17.10%
  • Week-to-Week change: 13.25%

St. Mary

  • Dec. 17 - 23: 7.90%
  • Dec. 24 - 30: 10.70%
  • Week-to-Week change: 35.44%

Vermilion

  • Dec. 17 - 23: 9.70%
  • Dec. 24 - 30: 12.71%
  • Week-to-Week change: 23.71%

According to the Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control, as of Dec. 30, 2020, there are no parishes in the state that are eligible to opt in to indoor on premise consumption for bars.
