Man shot and killed during alleged break-in

LAKE CHARLES, La. - A man who police say was breaking into someone's home was shot and killed.

On Monday at 1:15 a.m., Lake Charles Police responded to 2960 Lake Street (Suffolk Manor Apartments) in reference to a burglary and shots fired.

When officers arrived they found that the person who made the unauthorized entry into an apartment was shot by the renter of the apartment, according to Capt. Kevin Kirkum, spokesperson for the Lake Charles Police Department.

The person who was shot later died from the injuries.

The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Ronald D. Fontenot. He had no permanent address listed.

The investigation is ongoing.
